I started this blog a year back to share my experience about the Canadian Student VISA process. The VISA process is fairly simple but strangely enough very few people have enough details about how to go about the process. So, let me guide you through the process.

It’s been a year since I applied for my Canadian VISA. Everything went as planned once I landed here and it has been an amazing journey ever since. So, I am looking forward to share my experience with my fellow Indians about not only how to apply for Canadian Student VISA, but also about life in Canada. I am going to touch on “How to get a Canadian Driving License”, “How to travel to the US” etc. etc. Hope this helps and hope to see you in Canada soon.

Making calls to India

Not expensive at all. There are so many ways of staying in touch with your friends from India. Let’s talk about software options first.

If you have an Android or iPhone you can install Viber, Whatsapp and Skype. This should manage all your calling and texting needs. However, if the other party whom you are calling does not have an Android or an iPhone then you would have to look for other choices. WiCall is a good alternative. They charge you around 1.8 cents for a call to India. Please note that you would need a data connection to use all the above software.

Now let’s look at the services. There are hundreds of services which let you make calls to India. My personal favorite is www.localphone.com

This lets you make calls to India at 1.5 cents per minute. You can call other countries as well. To use it straight from your mobile (make sure you have enough minutes), just assign the numbers you dial to most to the speed dial list on their website. It will assign you a local number for each of these numbers, and when you call the local number, it gets connected to the international number. There is also a general access number which you can use. In this case, just dial this number and then dial the international number at the tone.
